Writer and scholar Viet Thanh Nguyen just won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his novel, The Sympathizer.
Split between the end of the Vietnam War and the following years in Los Angeles, the book tells the story of a North Vietnamese spy whose loyalty and identity quickly come into question.
Enjoy an early short story from Nguyen here, titled Better Homes and Gardens, from a 2002 issue of Manoa focusing on New Vietnamese writing from Vietnam and The U.S.
