Rachael Hanel is the author of Not the Camilla We Knew: One Woman’s Path from Small-town America to the Symbionese Liberation Army, a work of narrative nonfiction released in 2022 by the University of Minnesota Press. Her memoir, We’ll Be the Last Ones to Let You Down: Memoir of a Gravedigger’s Daughter (2013, University of Minnesota Press), was a finalist for a Minnesota Book Award. Her essays have appeared in online and print literary journals such as Bellingham Review and New Delta Review. She holds an MA in History from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University. She teaches creative nonfiction at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
