Born in New York, New York and raised in Princeton, New Jersey, Defne has spent her high school years at Exeter studying a liberal arts curriculum centered around the Harkness method of learning. As a part of this curriculum, she was assigned to independently research topics related to United States History in the Spring term of the year-long United States History sequence.
